Soniyah Doughty

A memoir of preservation
Deceased, Needlework, Impermanence, Heirloom, Vintage, Aura, Ephemeral

Soniyah is an emerging designer whose work explores the use of traditional hand sewing techniques and its role in current fashion. Her project explores ‘the death of process’ as she blends found and discarded textiles with her unique style of silk shading, abstract goldwork embroidery and digital print design. Whilst preserving these traditional hand sewing techniques she turns to the damaged lace and textiles found in dark corners of antique shops, as a source of inspiration and connection. An exploration of the physical impressions of deceased wearers/ owners and their latent touch left behind on garments and the material, propels the aesthetic of the collection.
