hand weaving, (re)connection, imperfection

The research project is a research investigation with a focus on traditional handcrafting methods. It explores learning to hand weave textiles on an 8-shaft table loom as a self-taught hand weaver. It involves analysing the types of traces of human engagement handwoven into those textiles and emphasising the aesthetics of imperfection. The project is about (re)connecting with handcraft. Although handweaving is a tedious and repetitive action, it can also be described as connective and strengthening. The intention of the project is to (re)value and (re)new appreciation towards the knowledge, skills, & experiences of the maker that are interwoven into textiles.
